it was nice, the tiger exhibits are pretty cool. THe elephant exhibit is terrible. THe food is expensive and ok. THe shave ice melts quickly. THe kids zoo is the best part. It's brand new too. Watch out for the peacocks walking around the zoo freely.

This is the first time i went to a zoo and actually felt bad for the animals. the elephant exhibit wasa disgrace. A small pen for the animals, and the one shaded area was barely big enough for both elephants, and the ground was littered with cannonball-sized bits of elephant dung. I know, animals poop, but there was so much that the elephants ciouldn't move, for fear of stepping in their own waste. The hippo exhibit featured filthy glass. Several of the exhibits werwe built at ground level, with the habitat considerably higher than line of sight. Hippo and cheetah pens being a good example. Several of the animals could not be seen due to this design flaw. Several of the exhibits had missing info placards, or ones that were vandalized. Plenty of graffiti though. Vending machines were broken, no zoo staff appeared to be present at all. Some pens looked neglected, and information on the animals was limited. The chimps appeared to be especially belligerent, which is no surprise, as many of the animals seemed to be dumped into this horrible environment immediately after capture. The zoo is one of the many substandard attractions awaiting visitors to this banana republic, the waikiki aquarium being equally lacking. Stay away from this turd.

What a bright beautiful landscaped zoo with such lively and vivacious animals. Truly thrilling to see all of God's creations together in what I would call the most beautiful place on the planet.

Thank you for this info. The Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha Nebraska is great! We will vacation in Hawaii in April 2008 and NOT attend this site with our children 8 & 10. When we were in Hawaii in 2007 and questioned the quality.

Best thing about the zoo is the Children's Zoo located in the zoo. Fish tank & Guinea Pig exibits are the best! You can go in with the goats,(don't be afraid!).

When we went the first time we found the zo to be dirty and it seemed like the exibits were never completed. The glass enclosure for hippo viewing was so dirty that we couldn't see the hippo. The elephant was chained and just moving back and forth. So sad. The second visit it was the same and that was a year later. This is a crying shame. Are the animals getting good care there?

A small but nice Zoo. It was very relaxing to walk around the Zoo seeing the natural beauty of the island and the animals. Walking distance from many hotels on Wakki Beach area.

My wife and I were looking at killing some time so we thought lets go to the zoo. We are from Northern Alberta Canada so we enjoy trips like this. However our impression of this zoo has left a bad taste in our mouth. The Zoo was dirty and not layed out very well. Alot of the pens did not look like they were very well taken care of. Some of the animals looked very unhappy and thin, compared to some of the other Zoos that we have gone to we would rate this one as the worst for atmosphere and value.

The layout was very poor. It was not very clear on how to find all the animals. Some of the drink machines did not work or station was not open. It looked in some parts abandon. I took my 5 year old and only paid $8 dollars plus $3 parking which was the okay price for what a seen.Walking distance from the beach but watch the meters.
