Back to Vasamuseet Better than expected The ship is like something straight out of "Pirates of the Carribean". Very cool. Wish I had more time there.
Reviewed by: John from on May 23 2009 Try for a curator tour I was fortunate to visit the Vasa during a holiday, when some of the regular staff was off, and Fred Hocker, the head of research at the museum, gave the tour. It was extraordinary. If you are able to schedule a "curator tour" with Fred you will be fortunate indeed. He is incredibly knowledgable and a very engaging preesnter, and he's great with questions, too. My understanding is that there may be a small additional fee to arrange a curator tour; and it is not clear to me if this can routinely be done by individuals or only groups. This should be a definite "target" if you tend to be on the intellectual side or have a special interest in history.

I couldn't imagine what was so great about a ship that didn't hardly make it out of the harbor before sinking. To my amazement, the museum was more than worth the money. The ship is restored to it's old glory. About 95% of the ship is original. The museum staff is helpful. They even provide guided tours free of charge. The movie is short but very informative. After visiting, I agree whole-heartedly with the tour books. It is a MUST-SEE!
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Nov 13 2006 Interesting place to explore. I enjoyed exploring the Vasamuseet. As well as looking at the Vasa and reading about the ship's history, you can also find out alot about Swedish maritime history and life as a sailor in Sweden. (The keeldragging story is very interesting to read about.) It takes about 3 - 4 hours to explore the Vasamuseet, which is easily accessable by ferry, bus or by foot from Central Stockholm. It costs about 100 kronor to enter the museum.
Reviewed by: T M from on Nov 09 2006 Relive History From the moment you step up to the building you can feel something special. The use of multi-media plus hands on displays is the best I have seen. The ship and the continuing historical work is truly one of the most incredible sights world wide.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! User from on Oct 31 2006 Fill in 2 hours I thought it would just be a ship, but spent 2 hours admiring the craftsmanship and design of a boat from the 17th century. Reasonably priced too.

Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Nov 21 2004 The Vasa - a must see. To see this old galleon close up almost in its entirety as it was made hundreds of years ago is incredible. It is like stepping back in time. This is a superb museum and a credit to Stockholm. Go see it - you won't be disappointed.
