Grand Sierra Resort AAAA
Unlike many of the hotels downtown, the Grand Sierra is classy and clean. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of service, friendly and helpful staff, very clean environment and impressive room. It included a flat screen TV in the bathroom, full length mirror, big closet and a wonderful view of snow cap mountains through our big window. It is by far the nicest hotel I've experienced in Reno. Unlike most places , it was quiet and allowed me to solidly sleep. The machines paid and there are plenty of tables to play cards. Another fine point, never did I find myself looking for a cocktail waitress. They catered to everyone.
Would you recommend this to a friend?
Yes

Why? / Why Not?
Clean, reasonable, able to sleep, excellent service and machines paid. An excellent place to stay for the price, and far cleaner and classy than any other hotel in Reno I've experienced. It has changed my view of Reno to a positive one.

Home away from home and Great for Families.
As a mother of 2 and traveling as a family, it can be difficult to find a Hotel which meets the needs of a family. If you are a family looking for a home away from home, this is it!! The rooms in the Summit at Grand Sierra are so beautifully decorated and so comfortable. In the room was a Refrigerator and Microwave. This came in handy when it came to storing milk and juice and heating up some food we had brought for the kids. We had a roll-away brought in for my 5 year old a brought the port a crib for my 2 year old. both fit great and we still had a ton of room to move around. My step son was also with us and he slept on the sectional couch. There was still plenty of room for another kid if we had one. There is a sectional couch in the living area and the bedding on the bed is very comfy. Not the typical flowered stiff bed spread like at other hotels. The summit area of the hotel is non smoking so there is no smell of smoke in the room although you could smell it in the hallways. But the rooms smelled like new furniture. Being a family on a budget we ate at the Round Table Pizza downstairs and they had a candy shop and a ice cream place right across the way. It is nice to go somewhere and not have to get in the car to go get it. Everything you would ever need is right there including Starbucks. We paid $110 for the room which is a steal when compared to other hotels in the area. Our purpose for staying here was because we took our son to Wild Island Water Park in nearby Sparks, Nevada for his birthday and after a long and very hot(100 degrees) day, it was nice to arrive at the Grand Sierra and stay in a lovely hotel. It was only 5 minutes from the park to the Hotel. We will definitely stay here again. My only complaint it that we had the thermostat at its coldest temperature and on high and it still was stuffy in the room. But being that is it such a large hotel and so hot outside, the whole system may have been working overtime. Greatest Value for the buck. A+A+A+A+A+A+A+A+

Resort Fee? What is This?
Booked the room through Priceline and got a good rate for a Wednesday night stay ($30). I was a bit surprised when I had to pay a $5 resort fee when checking in for things I didn't plan to use and assumed were all included with normal services provided. Not a big deal, just more of an annoyance. The hotel was a great value for the money. The place is huge and has some nice restaurants so a person could stay and play here and never venture out. I like to wander from casino to casino when I am playing and prefer the downtown area when it comes to gambling. It is about 2 miles to downtown area, so not a bad drive. The last time I stayed here was when it was the MGM Grand........so that goes back a ways!!!

Pleasantly Surprised after all the bad reviews
Reserved Summit Room at bargain rate for poker tournament. Was afraid (After reading the previous reviews)that I wouldn't get it, but I did. Nice room, but the people next door were loud. I called the desk and asked for a different room and within 10 minutes I had a key to a bigger, nicer Summit Room "for my trouble". The room was very nice and clean. The halls in the Summit are a little dark but meant to be calming,I think.

Don't waste your time here
First of all, after calling 3 separate times to confirm my room was on a Summit floor with a king size bed (once to make the initial reservation, once because I had to add a room, and once because I didn't arrive until midnight and wanted to be sure my room would still be ready), I arrived around midnight only to find out that I had a room with two queens that was not a Summit room. After being told there were no rooms available in the Summit or any roomswith a king size bed, and after I explained my situation with confirming three times they suddenly were able to come up with a room with a king size bed (still not in the Summit). The next day I had to fight with the front desk (again) to be moved to the type of room I had reserved. They were finally able to place me in the Summit, but again only with two queen size beds. I have never been treated so rudely and with such incompetence as I was at the Grand Sierra Resort. Things were clean, but definitely not worth the hassle.

Dirty Rooms. We're not going back!
We've had two unpleasant reservation experiences here in the past 3 weeks...but worst of all, the room we were given had obviously not been cleaned. On the first occasion, we had reserved a room with 2 queen beds, and were given a single king size with no offer of a switch. The sofa bed that came with the room was broken, and I ended up having to sleep on the floor. Furthermore, I found dirt, crumbs, candy wrappers and a used battery under the sofa cushions. I was shocked to find old water and paper garbage floating in the ice bucket, and the surfaces in the room had obvious smudges and had not been dusted. Worst of all was the bathroom, where the floor had stains (!) and water spots and small bits of paper and a plastic tube cap...the small makeup mirror by the sink had toothpaste splatter from someones mouth splattered across it! That's just gross. The second reservation was to come with a shower for a handicapped person..and we were given a tub and told that there were no other accomodations, but that it was a "handicap tub". It is not appreciated to be told what one will be more comfortable to bathe in. We have also stayed here in the past, and have not had an unpleasant experience. We rent several rooms in Reno every summer for our business, and enjoyed our stay this summer, but considering these recent experiences, we will certainly find other accomodations and would not recommend the Grand Sierra Resort to our friends or business clients.

Extremely disappointed
Oct 13, 2008 - horrible experience at this hotel; management & security suck; cleanliness and comfort as well. First 2 times we stayed on top floors and loved it; this time stayed in comp room and would have been better of in trailer in parking lot. VERY noisy in hallway, no security cameras apparently; King size bed uncomfortable and short sheeted so that the flat mattress pad and bottom sheet were up around our knees and our feet on bare mattress; bed uncomfortable and pillows so old they are completely flat; towels are very rough and mildew grows in the grout in the shower/tub. No good system of switchboard telephone records (if there is a system). Woman weekend day manager way over her head and very unprofessionally unfriendly (not a person I would want rep. my company); we travel every other month and this is the WORST experience we've had. Motel 6 is better. PS the comps on your players carrd are only good if you live in the area.

Don't stay here!
If you stay here, stay on the 20th floor (or above). My husband attended a conference here, along with about 2200 others. Friends on the abovementioned floors had great rooms - we on the lower floors did not! Actually one of the worst rooms I had ever stayed it! But the funny thing was we were all paying the same rate. When I asked for a coffee maker(since we were all paying the same rate and we didn't have that, a refrigerator, microwave, 41 in TV, tv in the bath AND a paper), I was told by young lady who barely spoke English that she would ask housekeeping to get us one. Needless to say, we didn't get one.
