For true Poe fans
True Poe fans can not miss Baltimore. It's certainly a humble house located in, ahem, a less than typical tourist neighborhood (I've been there several times and never felt unsafe; I'd just recommend not trying to look like you don't belong there). Poe IS Baltimore (and vice versa), and don't forget to visit Poe's grave while you're out there, as well as Fort McHenry, where Poe was once stationed as a soldier.

No, no, no
Unless you're an extreme Poe fan, I wouldn't waste the time or the money. The museum itself is nice, but the neighborhood surrounding it is awful - and I live in Baltimore!

Awesome historical home - definitely worth seeing!
The Poe house is located in a fairly bad area of Baltimore, but is definitely worth the trip. It is right outside the city - a couple minutes away from the Lexington Market (also a must do). Be sure to check the hours of the Poe House. When we went, the current hours were Wednesday - Saturday 12-3:45. Also be sure to check out his grave which is within walking distance, but be safe and drive to it. Park on one of the surrounding streets and be sure to pay the meter (even a quarter for 15 minutes - I was told they watch those meters very closely). If you like Poe and his works, this is a must see! There are a lot of his personal illustrations and works plus many of his personal items. The house itself is also very interesting to see. The staircases are very steep and narrow. Very knowledgeable curator and staff.

Moody!
It's really small! But packed with neat Poe stuff. I think they only allow 25 people in at one time. The guide told me it was Baltimore's smallest historic house museum.
