I visited the "Fortress" at dusk in October. It was beautiful!! Yo an see all of the city and the history is amazing. You can take a trolley ride thats about 30 seconds long right to the top for a little under 4euro. Very beautiful!

one of the largest castles in Europe. Nice atmosphere. You need to leave at least 1/2 day to see the castle and the area at the base of the mountain, as well as souvenier shopping.

Do not leave Salzburg before visiting the Fortress!! - There is so much to do and see it would be a shame to miss it. You can walk up or get the funicular. There is lots of tours and museums to visit aswell as the the tour of the fortress itself, including the marionette museum. There is spectacular views over the city and great photo opportunities!! The restaurant up at the fortress offers good food and at reasonable prices too. They do everything - sandwiches, soups, main meals and delicious apple strudel!! - If you are lucky you will get a window seat. Nice relaxing atmosphere.

The people are immensely friendly; we were there during the attacks on 9/11 and we couldn't have asked for better treatment from the people at our hotel as well as everywhere we went. Would definitely recommend the Hotel Bristol.
