Back to Canadian Museum of Civilization disappointment My husband and I travelled to Ottawa, specifically to see the Renoir Exhibit and the folk art at the museum. The information clerks, as well as two other staff members informed us that the museum did not have a folk art collection. So we left.

I really enjoyed the exhibits and there was plenty to see, but don't expect to get it done quickly. I would recommend allowing yourself at least 3 hours to fully appreciate the museum, especially if you want to be able to read all the information. The children's museum was fun for the young children and the older kids loved the other sections. Here's a little tip: when we went, Thursday nights were free. So, if you go on a Wednesday and want to resee or finish off a section, you can do so on Thursday night for free.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Jul 05 2006 Worth the walk across the river Is it a museum of civilization in Canada, or a museum of Canadian civilization? Both! Outstanding mix of history, art, artifacts, multi-media, and more, doing its ambitious best to be inclusive of the long history of Canada (from the First Nations peoples and Norse settlers, on to the present) and the vast Canadian nation beyond Ontario and Quebec. Permanent collections augmented by special exhibits of both Canadian and international topics. Atrium with "totem poles" from British Columbia is breathtaking. Often good musical performers. Great view of Ottawa. IMAX has good offerings. Too much to accomplish in one day - plan several visits if you must see it all.
