Big-time opulence
It wasn't my thing, but how often are you going to see such regally, lavishly decorated rooms? I'm glad I went. Though I'm not glad they didn't let us take pictures.

We really enjoyed it.
The Royal Palace is a must see. It was very interesting, from the art to the history to the culture. We picked the guided english tour which was very affordable and worth it.

Amazing
You won't see many places like this in the world. So much history and stunning how much money and time went into this palace so many years ago. It's a must see if in Madrid. Just west of downtown.

Spanish Royal History
We toured this palace in Madrid on the 2nd day of an 11 day tour of Spain. The palace was EXCELLENT! If you walk through without a guide or the little information speakers that you can get, then you miss out. Our guide was wonderful and very well informed. She knew so much about the history of her city, her country, and the palace. There is a rule that you cannot take pictures inside the palace. There are guards that ensure you do not take any either. However, you can take pictures on the outside of the palace and in the courtyard which has views of the cathedral, the back of the palace, and breathtaking views of the city from far up. I suggest you GO and take in the rich Spanish history.

Nice royal armory
The best part was the royal armory. They have knights, swords, muskets, and small canons. The palace it self was O.K., only a part of it is open to the public. I did not get to see the pharmacy, there was a school field trip going on and there was a lot of kids. Also, the palace can be close for official functions, so don't wait till the last day or you might be left out the gate.

Royal Palace worth visiting in Madrid
I just returned from Madrid, Spain, and during my visit I took a tour of the Royal Palace. This is not to be missed. The palace is the largest in Europe with 2000 rooms. My tour was in English, and cost about 10 Euro. I visited about 30 rooms, including the Throne Room of King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia. It was just breathtaking to see the priceless treasures, incuding artwork, furniture, and Queen Sofias private collection of Stradivarius violins. After your visit to the palace, walk across the courtyard to the cathedral.
