Arguably the finest Elizabethan building in Kilkenny city, this former merchant house was first built by John Rothe-Fitzpiers in 1594 and served as the family home for Rothe, his wife and their twelve children. The complex features the restored facades of three houses, each separated by cobbled courtyards, and is now home to a variety of exhibitions tracing the social history of the city. Kilkenny's Genealogical Research Service is also located here.2 ¢/min and up – call home from over 100 countries!http://travel.comfi.com/Best Value. Best Escape. – Escape to Tampa Bay! Ongoing
The museum at Rothe House possesses a wide variety of objects of archaeological and historical interest. Most of these were either found in Kilkenny or donated by its people.Since the collection is huge it is difficult to put everything on display all it once. Therefore on a rotational basis, objects are put up for public viewing. These include Stone Axes, a Viking Sword etc. Entry fee is applicable.
