This comprehensive museum of Atlanta's past is located a few blocks from the Governor's Mansion in residential Buckhead. Exhibits cover the gamut of the region's history, including special sections on the Civil War, Southern folk crafts, African-American history, and the Civil Rights movement. The permanent exhibition titled Centennial Olympic Games Museum at the Atlanta History center features all aspects of the Summer Olympic Games which were held in Atlanta in 1996. This exhibition includes comprehensive information on various factors of the games like gathering finance, generating public involvement, the three year Olympic bidding process so on and so forth. The Permanent exhibition titled "Turning Point: The American Civil War" at the Atlanta History Center is one of America's Largest and most detailed civil war exhibitions. The permanent collection includes many historically significant artefacts like uniforms, cannons and flags and other important memorabilia. The museum is open on all days.
