Christmas Singing Tree (The)
2009-12-01 to 2010-01-01 The popular Singing Christmas Tree is back, bigger and much merrier. The tree, which is a tradition at the State Theatre, brings joy to all who see it. The massive tree, decorated with thousands of lights and foliage, allows for a great host of festive activities, like musical performances with a Christmas theme, unfold from December till January. The choir features a number of soloists accompanied by musicians performing a host of popular Christmas songs, such as Jingle Bells and Silent Night.

Designed by Hans ad Roelf Botha, the architect responsible for the design of Stijdom Square, this complex houses five theatres. It is situated at the corner of Church and Prinsloo, and in the past it has presented the best musicals and stage shows in South Africa. If you do not feel like seeing any shows, there is a good quality restaurant and pub at the theatre. Due to severe funding shortages, shows are few and far between these days - watch the press for details.
