Ruby Falls

The Jewel of Lookout Mountain

Back to Ruby Falls

The tour was no where near 1 1/2 hours! It was much shorter, perhaps 35-40 min if you count when you leave the bottom elevator. I must be blind as the falls looked no where close to 145' and the guide said that they have never actually measured them. That was strange. Also, I was at the end of the group and had less than a minute to view the falls before they turned the lights off. The water coming from the top was too uniform to be natural. Guide was silent when I asked if it were pumped!

Beautiful But...
Though the Falls were beautiful, we thought should have been told that to see them we would be going through underground caverns for an hour for the brief moment at the Falls. We were herded through with so many others (About 45 in each group with leader) all who were paying $16 for the privilege. I think many waterfalls are equally beautiful that I've seen for free as I visit the sites of the U.S.A.

Interesting place marred by tackiness
I like stuff like this. Just something about seeing the same places that were the highlight of a 1930's - 1960's road trip. However.....

we loved it, but did not have enough time
We love visiting caves...we went there in 2007 after visiting Sequoia Caverns, AL. We loved this place too, but not as much as Sequoia. We did not have enough time to take pics and enjoy Ruby Falls... the next group of tourist was already waiting to go through..

A nice family trip
My 8 year old son and 14 year old daughter both enjoyed this trip. I don't know why there are all these negative reviews. Yes, the price is a little high and I do wish they would spread the groups out more, but of course that would mean less money for them. I felt more rushed by the people behind me than the guide. If you want more time for pictures, you should probably stay at the end of the group. I am going to take my kids to the racoon mountain cave mentioned in one of these reviews. I had no idea it even existed.

That's it...
That is what you are going to see when you reach the main fall, "THATS IT! I had the opportunity to talk to another tourist and both agreed it was not that wonderful amazing place. Its funny because is one of the first natural attractions where electronic music and lighting effects are used to make it seem a wonderful experience. Although it was natural stream fall, the location seemed man made, graffitis, trash on many corners, etc. IMO way over-priced, shoving too many people in each tour and not enough time.

Ruby Falls? You mean one fall.
I traveled all the way from Northern California to see "the FALLS". The pictures and marketing hype make it seem this is one amazing majestic place to see. So much walking for nothing, so much staff, parking, facilities and you will think the main attractions is going to be amazing, but when you get to see the fall is just one humble fall in a very tight contained space. The staff try to stuff too many people on each tour, that was my main complaint, especially on the elevator, well ONE elevator. After walking through a contained tight space and watching the humble falls, then you have to come back the same way. I was left with this sour note of seeing the majestic Ruby falls, for me in my personal opinion it was a waste of money and time. The title should be changed to the Ruby Fall as it is only one, the rest is just streams of water coming down from the walls.

Its definately a cave.........
Lots of people, real quick, too commercialized - and then theres the falls. the reason they turn out the lights real quick is because people will start realizing that the falls are man-made. a perfectly circular catch basin thats made of cement, not the natural limestone. i guess i understand though, after walking through the hordes there needs to be a big "payoff" at the end (and why does a giant natural cave conveniently 'end' at a waterfall.....hmmmmm)
