The house at the Pioneer Museum is a T-shaped dwelling with a thatched roof, traditional dung and peach-pip floor and pioneer furniture dating from 1848. The outside oven and outbuildings can also be seen, and bread made in the oven can be sampled from time to time. The tanning-pit, wagon-shed, water-furrow, threshing-floor and water-mill are all authentic. There are also various farm animals that roam around the farmyard. Guests are taken on guided tours of the farm and the early farming culture in South Africa is explained, with demonstrations of cooking methods and farming techniques by arrangement. We rented a lapa at the Pioneer Museum to celebrate my 70th birthday last Saturday, 17 October....
