Oriental Opium Casket
2009-01-01 to 2009-12-31
The Oriental Opium Casket is one of the permanent exhibits at the American International Rattlesnake Museum in Albuquerque. The snake presented in this carved sculpture is not a rattlesnake but an unknown species of viper. The snake is closely related to pit-vipers. The opium jar is actually carved into a skull, and the snake is twirled around it, denoting poison.

When you walk through the doors of this Old Town museum and shop, you may find yourself warily glancing behind the door. But there are no snakes slithering about the store, their crawl space is in the back room where you will find the most complete collection of live rattlesnake species in the world. Once you have toured the museum, return to the gift shop where rattlesnake memorabilia is the hiss. Just try and get through the front door without buying a Rattlesnake Museum logo T-shirt.NYC Best Hotel Deals: 50% Savings In New York!
