Honeymoon
September 2009. We stayed in the garden wing, because ocean view was not a priority for us. The reviews on yahoo of the garden wing scared me because people made it sound like a nightmare, but the room itself was actually really big, clean, and bright. Because the hotel knew it was our honeymoon, they gave us prime location- first floor, first door we came to when entering the resort from the parking lot. The view from our room was a walk out door to a garden lounge area with ponds bridges and walkways leading to the lobby with our own private seating area. The light in our bathroom went out one morning and without even calling the front desk, the maid service had it taken care of while cleaning our room. It was fixed when we returned back to the room at the end of the day. The Sheraton also offers "You Tidy, We Treat" meaning that if you pass on maid service that day, they treat you to 1 free breakfast that morning. You put a little card that they provide in your room key slot by midnight and the maid service slips you a voucher for breakfast the next day. The sheraton does have ocean view rooms and they are breathtaking with different wings offering different views of the beach and surfers in the distance. The entire hotel was renovated in 2007 so you're safe in any wing or room you choose to stay in. The beach at the Sheraton was awesome because it connected to the swimming pool. The beach and pool were separated by a walkway and grass, and a few palm trees!!! Most people pulled pool chairs onto the grass between the pool and ocean to lay in the sun next to the beach without the mess of the sand and were able to play in the ocean then wash their feet off in the little shower before going back to their chairs or into the pool. The Sheraton is (I think) the only hotel on Poipu Beach that is located on the swimable beach. There are other hotels in the area, but you can't swim on their beachfront property. The Sheraton also gave us a complimentary bottle of champagne for celebrating our honeymoon with them. The restaurants were great, the complimentary breakfast is right on the ocean with seating available outside or in, and The Point is their entertainment restaurant/bar with live entertainment almost nightly with hawaiian dancers and live music, various bands and a free mai tai reception offered a few nights a week. The concierge desk has a full time employee who sits at the desk and offers their services to help guests plan activities and outings on the island. You tell them what you want to do, look through the brochures from the different vendors, and together you decide what you want to do and they make the phone calls. The concierge lady helped us decide which horseback riding tour to go with and gave advice when trying to decide which Na Pali coast cruise company to choose. We also booked an ATV waterfall tour through the concierge desk. The service was great (we got layed when we arrived to the hotel- so cute) and the staff was upbeat, friendly and had "Aloha!" spirit. My favorite service was the pool's bartender. Paul was our favorite.

nice gardens area but garden rooms are old and need major work
great location, nice landscaping. Bu do not stay in the garden rooms, they are old tired and in need of major repairs. The A/C barely works, the bath fixtures are from the 70s, and the room is very old looking.

I want to stay forever
The Sheraton was a wonderful hotel. We were welcomed with open arms!! literally. We waited 10 years for this vacation and was not at all disappointed. EVERYONE was so very helpful and nice. I even asked for scissors and they had housekeeping bring them to me!! The room was always clean when we got back from their wonderful buffet breakfast overlooking the beautiful ocean. Nice and Breezy. We will be going back in 2009 and can not wait. We will get a ocean view this time but the room we had was just fine and it was by the parking lot. The first night we were there they showed a movie on a large screen we could watch and listen to off our lanai. We were made to feel like family. The beach is the best of the best and then the kids went to the pool while I took a shower. Mai Tai hour was GREAT!!!!!!

If you're going to spend the money, go to the Hyatt
The hotel looks good from far but it's far from good. At first glance, you see the location (Poipu), Koi ponds, balconies, and flat panel tv's.

Changes at the Sheraton
This was our 5th year visiting the Sheraton Kauai. There have been so many changes since the last visit. Starwood Resorts has completely taken over. Everything was geared to selling timeshares of their new resort in Princeville. It was walking into an advertisement. The little shops that were there are gone and are now vacation planners. Before we arrived we were called by who we thought was the concierge. She asked us if we would like to make reservations for dinner at the Beach House and to call if we needed anything in advance. I thought, "how nice of them". When we got there and met with her, low and behold, she was making reservations for 90 minute presentations for timeshares and we would receive a certificate to use at the Beach House. No more breakfasts included in the resort fee - $18.50 per person now. No more amenities. Everything is sky high in cost. Needless to say, we won't be back and it is a shame because it used to be the perfect hotel. The furnishing have changed to dark, heavy wood with not much space for clothing. We lived out of a suitcase for 10 days.

Sheraton Kauai via Special Offer
We got to the island of Kauai via Sheraton/Starwood Vacation Resort's special offer (they thought we'd be interested in purchasing a timeshare) which came out to $130 a night. Service was excellent; place was clean and location was fine.

Great for MY kids
We wanted a nice to very nice hotel and this fit well. We also wanted a place that our 5 1/2 and 3 1/2 year old would enjoy. This place REALLY came through. Maybe not for all kids but my adventurist 3 year old and somewhat adventurist 5 year old absolutley loved the beach, snorkeling (5 year old), Pool, pool slide, and breakfasts. This place had the best place to snorkel out of the 3 places we tried in a week. Score! It is close enough to shopping, dive shops, grocery, gas, and dining. They even have a kids club that will take the kids for a day. The gal was great with the kids (I am really cautious about this stuff). We will go back. Bring your own snorkel gear and wine and save a wad.

Nice hotel on a lovely section of beach
The Sheraton Kauai Resort provided exactly what my wife and I were looking for on our first trip to Hawaii...a relaxing environment in a great location. Of all Kauai's hotels, the Sheraton could quite possibly have the nicest beachfront. The Sheraton also makes for a nice central base for touring the rest of the island...it's about equidistant from Waimea Canyon and Hanalei.
