I Went To Lumahai Beach in Summer During the summer my daughter and I swam at Lumahai Beach, the water is wonderful. I can tell you at the time the waves were very calm not like the wintertime where they get up to 15 to 25 feet. However, when my daughter and I were jumping off the rocks into the water during the summer we were swimming back to shore I could feel myself being pulled side to side by the current. The only way I got back into shore is swim parallel to the beach. Lumahai Beach is not for small children; there is a powerful undertow along with a rip current. Unless you’re a strong swimmer and know what you’re doing, don’t swim at Lumahai Beach. By all means take beautiful pictures. Hope this information helps you. Unbelievable... This beach is the best beach in the world! The swimming, when safe, is a blast, the shells are abundant, and the peace and quiet will take anyone worlds away. Spend a day...it will quickly become your favorite too.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Dec 08 2006 Favorite Beach in the World Lumahai Beach, kawaii is my favorite beach in the world. My family and I go there every year when we visit Kawaii. From first glimpse, it is absolutely beautiful. to get there, there is a secret, tropical pathway but it can get really slippery when wet. Be careful. Also, if you have small children, the waves are pretty strong, especially at the east side of the beach. Children enjoy the tide pool at the right of the beach. It is very safe and fun to sit in and relax. There is also a rock that you can swim out to...my dad did it and stood on the top and actually jumped off. The sand is soft with no rocks and the water is clear, you don't really even need goggles...which is a + for me cause I wear contacts. Having picnics there is also very fun. It is also very secluded for the most part. Lots of trees and vegetation. Hope you can visit my favorite beach in the world.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Mar 22 2006 Our favorite Kauai beach Great beach. Only problem is mid-day when the sun makes the sand so hot you have to wear sandals to/from the water. Mixture of calm cove-like beach with lava rock finger that you can jump from into the surf between a small outcropping.

I personally like the long stretch better anyway. You may see a fair amount of shell seekers searching for the elusive Sunrise Shell. I found mine there and treasure it as my best souvenier.
