The Miyajima Oyster Festival held in February is a local celebration of one of Hiroshima's specialty foods, the oyster. At any given time Miyajima is a popular destination for oyster-lovers, and even moreso throughout the festival weekend, when scrumptious fresh oysters can be bought at the outdoor stalls. Stalls are set up all along the port, selling not only fresh raw oysters but a variety of tasty oyster dishes. The beautiful scenery of Miyajima and the famous Itsukushima Shrine make for a great day out.
