Tip Driven Server
My wife and I are from Boston and we went there on the 4th of July week for the first time because she loves his show. Although we don’t drink, our server seemed to steer us to select alcoholic beverages. He was not too helpful with assisting us with alternative non-alcoholic drinks. When our food came, he did not inquire as to how our meal was. He quickly asked how we were 2 or 3 times as he was walking by. Our server at Denny’s in the morning was more friendly and courteous. I expected more from a restaurant like Emeril’s. He ended up spending most of his time with the other tables; whom he later claimed were all old family members and friends after my wife jokingly told him that he neglected us. Though a successful businessman now, I know the ropes as I used to work for restaurants in the past. Most people don’t know this but waiters have a preconceived formula to determine if someone will tip them well. The minute that this server picked up the conventional signs that we accidentally demonstrated for poor tipping, our service went in the toilets. Although the food was excellent, this unfortunate experience overshadowed what would have been a memorable experience for her and I. Sadly enough, when we talk about the restaurant between us and friends in Massachusetts, the “Tip Driven Server” dominates every aspect of it.
