Indescribable
Heritage for humanity we can find diferent kinds of rooms which make it a pleasant visit and a meeting with the culture. It is really impressive. Some of the things we can see are the rooms of the royal family and their mausoleums. There are also one of the most completed libraries in the world and many artistic works. You can smell the catholic environment that the country was one day. There is no doubt this is one of the best conserved places in Spain and for many people the eighth wonder.

Beautiful and Impresive
El monasterio del Escorial is one of the most beautiful places I've seen here in Madrid, plus the view on the train is awesomely beatiful and the town is full of little streets with curious shops. Very convenient also because you can take the train at Atocha Station and in an hour you'll be there and the whole town can be seen in a day, so no need to stay. But staying it's also a great experience. Don't miss it

Excellent trip
If you have any opportunity to get out of the heart of Mardid proper and see the Escorial, take it. It is my favorite attraction in all of Spain (narrowly beating out the Prado and surroundings in Madrid) and one of the more impressive buildings I've ever seen. Built on a massive scale, it is a testament to the might of the Spanish Empire under Phillip II and to the very Catholic character of the country and it's expansion during that time. The Royal Mausoleum, where the monarchs up to the modern day are entombed, links this history to Spain today and is a great way to finish the tour. Also, and maybe most importantly, the crowds are nothing like most of the sites in Madrid--people are around, for sure, but the place is just removed enough that and so big that you don't have to put up with the crush of tourists as at other places.
