An excellent example of a coastal fortification.
Fort Moultrie is an excellent place to learn about the coastal forts that defended American shores from colonial times until World war II. The fort has a visitor center that shows a nice orientation film and features a small museum detaling Moultrie's history. For a small fee, visitors can then tour the fort itself. The tour is well worth the fee, as five different sections of Moultrie are preserved to look as they did in five different historical eras. Well worth your time and money and truly more enjoyable than the more popular and famous Fort Sumter.

Fort Moultrie July 2004
I enjoyed the fort tour and it's rich history. The introduction movie was a little weak but it does give a solid timeline for the uses of this national treasure.
