Back to Cafe Gandolfi Looking forward to my next visit! I've just returned to London after a weekend in my home town of Glasgow. My wife has always been a fan of Gandolfi and whenever we have a visit home we always try and eat in our favorite restaurant. We moved to London two years ago and still when we come home the staff remember us. The food is always of a high standard, the venison is reason enough to go home! There were a couple of new faces but I must say our service was better than ever. It was incredibily busy and yet there seemed to be an air of calm I'm not sure I've noticed in my beloved Cafe before. It would seem there has been a change at Cafe Gandolfi and we liked what it has done. Looking forward to many more visits home to Glasgow and Cafe Gandolfi.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Apr 17 2006 One to miss unless you're the 'in crowd' I have been going to Cafe Gandolfi's about half a dozen times a year for the past 10 years, but sadly will not return. Things have slowly gone down hill since the opening of the bar upstairs with, in particular, the service becoming increasingly poor. That is unless you are a personal friend of a member of staff when you can expect their undivided attention. The experience of dismissive & cleeky staff was unfortunately not a one- off as I have perservered out of loyalty over the past few years. Good night and god bless Gandolfi's.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Feb 10 2006 Service worse than bad! I used to love coming here and having recently moved back to Glasgow, thought it would be a great venue to meet up with a couple of friends, including one who is new to the city. The great decor was completely undermined by the service. It wasn't just slow - the whole attitude from seating us, taking the food and drinks order and serving the food was that we were an incredible nuisance and the staff, when they could be bothered looking in our direction, were doing us a huge favour. Even getting the bill was a problem. I was embarrassed that I was responsible for suggesting that we went there. It spoiled quite a lot of old, affectionate memories and I would be very reluctant to go back.

My review may appear overly positive, but bearing in mind I enjoy eating out a lot, and have found very few good restaurants in the time I have been in Glasgow (most are over-priced, or quality that doesn't reflect the price at all), Cafe Gandolfi stands head and shoulders above everything I have experienced this far. Even when overly full, the staff managed to find us a table without making us feel like we'd stupidly intruded on their busy Friday night without a reservation. The meal was top quality, I second the black pudding and mushroom pancakes recommendation, they were superb. I won't say anymore except, get down there when you can and give it a go.

Noticeably the wine is served at perfect temperature, staff always very pleasant. I like the fact that staff are a little older here and very relaxed. On my last visit service could have been quicker, but the waiter was just too busy looking after so many tables, but this has never happened before.
