Twenty galleries filled with artifacts gathered from all over Turkey and the Near East celebrate 5,000 years of history with exhibits from Byzantium, the Ottoman Empire and the many civilizations of Anatolia and ancient Egypt. The main building houses the finds of nineteenth-century archaeologist Osman Hamdi Bey, in particular the famous fourth-century Alexander sarcophagus discovered at the royal necropolis of Sidon in Lebanon. The award-winning exhibit, 'Istanbul Through the Ages' is displayed on the mezzanine level of the Arkeoloji Müzesi (Istanbul Archaeology Museum). The expansive collection ranging from Istanbul's primitive period to the 15th century Byzantine artefacts, gives you an insight into the city's archaeological findings. Mosaic icons, the famous snake's head from the Serpentine Column and rare Byzantine iron chains include this immense and rarest collation.
Museum of the Ancient Orient Tour

The Museum of the Ancient Orient is an interesting tour for those keen on knowing ancient culture of the East. This tour commences with a brief introduction on the pre-Islamic religious studies and deities from the Al-Ula temple. This is followed by a stroll through the rare artefacts including old Aramaic engravings, Egyptian relics and antiques. All in all, the visitors get to see a fantastic selection of artworks from the most ancient civilizations of Anatolia, Egypt, the Arab continent and Mesopotamia.
Troy Exhibit

The upper level of the Arkeoloji Müzesi (Istanbul Archaeology Museum) displays the Troy exhibit, which traces the archaeological findings right from the 3,000 B.C to the time of Christ. One of the rare displays, here, includes the few parts of the golden hoard, Schliemann Treasure; which was named after its discoverer. This alluring display cannot be missed by art connoisseurs and art lovers.
