One of the oldest bars Portland, the Matador has recently come under new and hip management. Thankfully, the newly spiffed-up interior has had no impact on the drinks, which are still among the strongest in town. Get there before 7p on any day for $2.50 well drinks and $1 PBR pints. While it can be crowded on weekends, check out the pool tables for a single quarter any other time. There is food (by state law), but your bartender knows exactly what you came here for, serving it one glass at a time with a smile and a wink. -Marie Richie
