New Zealand opera star Dame Kiri Te Kanawa opened the centre in 1990, and the multi-purpose venue is host to productions by Opera New Zealand, the Royal New Zealand Ballet, the Auckland Philharmonia, the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, as well as international artists, conventions and exhibitions, theatrical and musical performances. Various venues within the centre, such as the ASB Theatre, seat audiences from 180 to 2256.

Auckland Farmers Santa ParadeNov 29th, 2009

One of the city's favourite annual events, the Farmers Santa Parade was launched in 1947. Anyone who grew up in Auckland will remember standing in sweltering heat waiting in eager anticipation for the parade to start. It takes 50 minutes for the floats and some 4,000 performers to pass. The parade is followed by a party for the children in Aotea Square. This includes activities and prizes, entertainment on stage, and a visit by Santa and celebrities.
