This historic gallery is run independently by its artist members and its five spacious galleries show a vibrant, rich and varied program offering a broad spectrum of exhibitions. There is also a permanent fine art collection of paintings, prints and sculptures—the galleries boast a copy of the Parthenon frieze—but items from this are only brought out once a year for show. Despite the modernity of much of what goes on show, the place still retains a rather fusty and rarefied atmosphere and is annoyingly formal—whisper or the attendants will glare and frown at you. There's a small shop, open during exhibitions only, selling a wide range of artist's materials, glass and ceramics.
