Back to Philadelphia Zoo Fun place, educational, a bargain for members The Philly Zoo is the oldest zoo in the US. They have extremely limited space, yet they are constantly updating and modernizing to make the best use of it. It makes for a fun day, with or without the kids. At 17.95 per person, it is much less expensive than many zoos, and I highly recommend becoming a member. A single membership (which allows 2 people to go as often as they wish) is only $55. You get free parking with it. The zoo is great both in good weather, and when it's raining. As a member, I don't feel I need to spend the whole day there, I can spend a couple of hours on rainy days looking at the indoor exhibits, and then spend sunny days outside. It's also a great way to get in some healthy exercise. In addition to supporting the animals, your entrance fee also supports the many conservation programs the zoo participates in. It's a great way to bond with the family, and educate them at the same time. I highly recommend it!
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Aug 01 2009 Horrible for animals, great for people It was a great place to see animals up close and suffering. Unfortunately, I like to see wild animals acting like wild animals, not like stuffed animals in a plastic display case.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Jul 20 2009 Expensive and run-down First of all just getting there is a headache. Traffic is unbelievable and parking takes forever. Then it is $12 to park and $18 a head to get in.
Reviewed by: TomA from on Apr 20 2009 Not interesting! The Zoo is very small and there are very few animals. The carousel and train rides are not definitely worth for 3$. Train ride is shame! You may not need more than 3 - 4 hrs see all the animals. Also, the food served in the Zoo is not that good. I waited for more than 40 mts in the queue on a crowdless day to get one french fries. Don't think it's worth it. Disappointing!

They both were just in aw and it did my heart good to see this. The Philadelphia Zoo now holds a very special place in our hearts.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Sep 01 2008 A road trip love affair This place was awesome. My son loved the open enclosures which allowed him to sit and lean over just enough to promote "I can touch it Mommy!" thoughts. We were a little shocked about the prices of the pony/horse rides ($5) which last all about 2 minutes that you had to share with another rider. All and all it was a clean spacious zoo and the animals were all very healthy looking. We were inlove with the big cats that had a marvelous designed habitat. We are going again in the fall.
Reviewed by: mtalngnow from on Aug 08 2008 AMAZING Basically, the greatest thing ive done all summer, and im 17 so that means something. I highly recommend visiting the zoo, so many cute little critters to see and some big boys like the gorilla and rhino, etc. Worked out really well as a date with my girlfriend and its fun as long as you like animals to some degree. Only bad thing i have to say is that the red panda was hiding somewhere so i never saw him, which was dissapointing bc he probably would have been my fav, but im sure youll have better luck. Not sure how else I can convince you, just go.*peer pressure*
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Aug 02 2008 What happened? I have lived my entire life in the Philadelphia area. Ever since I was a child, I have loved the Philadelphia zoo. It is always nice to return and see both the old and the new mixed together. Today was a rather sad visit. The zoo has been going through a transition for many years. The goal seems to be more natural environments for the animals. Unfortunately, so much of it now looks pieced together. There is no flow as you travel through the zoo. The cages and buildings that I loved as a child are now mostly gone. I realize the concepts and the need for change. Still, the Philadelphia Zoo has become a disappointment. Did I mention $17.95 per adult $14.95 for kids over 2 (a 12 year old is an adult) and $12 to park?

Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Jan 26 2008 Big City, Small Zoo Visited this zoo from out of town and figured a big city like Philadelphia would have a big zoo, but was way wrong. Paid $12.95 a person plus $10 to a park in a lot 2 blocks from the actual zoo as there is very limited parking near the zoo entrance. Animal exhibits seemed small, cramped, and out dated. The children's area was nice and had things for kids to do. Went through the entire zoo in 2 hours and never saw some exhibits that were on the map. Penguins were in a temporary area and then only saw 1. The zoo is very compact so was easy to walk through in a short time. Just expected something bigger and better. Came from a metropolitan area only about half the size of Phil. but that has renovated their zoo to make it much larger and better and admission about half of this. Started pouring rain as we were getting ready to leave, by the time we got to our car after the 2 block walk, was completley soaked. Unless they build a whole new zoo, would never go back.
