ERA - Esposizione di ricerca avanzata
2009-11-01 to 2009-12-31
If Trieste is the Italian capital of science, then ERA is its display case. Every two years (since 1991) the main local and national scientific institutes present the results of their most recent research here. This is done by film, computers, itinerant laboratories, simulations and lectures by researchers and technicians. The last show included the partecipation of Aibo, Sony's spectacular robotic dog, H.R. Giger, the brains behind the monsters in Alien, and IBM, which presented a prototype of a wearable computer. Some Italian companies present include CNR (Consiglio nazionale della ricerca), the ICGEB (International center for genetic engineering and biotechnology), the INFN (National institute of nuclear physics), the Trieste Research Area (one of the most inportant scientific research parks in Europe) and many others. The show is slightly too didactic - explaining science to the general public is not easy - but it is improving with time. The section dedicated to games of the future is interesting. Every day during the show a scientist meets the public and tells the secrets of space, science and medicine.
