Back to Fiesole Fiesole a gem! I read about Fiesole before my trip to Florence this past July. The trip was worth the bus fare. It was so beautiful up there and the view terrific. You can enjoy a glass of wine or have a nice dinner at one of several restaurants. A great place to explore. If I ever go back again I would certainly stay there away from the heat and maddening crowds in Florence. We go there after 5 pm and wish we had gone earlier in the day...don't miss it.

You just need to buy a bus ticket for up and down (they only last one way) they are not at all expensive and it is well worth the dollar per ticket to get there. There are Etruscan ruins (reasonably priced for entrance) with a small museum attached. If you walk up a slightly intimidating hill you will see the most amazing panoramic view of Florence (make sure you go on a clear day for the best view) picturesque does not quite do it justice. At the top of the hill you just walked up is a monastary with beautiful grounds. There is also a building at the top of the hill that sometimes houses a special event museum if you are lucky enough to catch it during that time. There are small restaurants there to eat while you wait for the bus (very small town atmosphere). Try the brick oven pizza (to die for).
