You do not have to go to Skokie (or New York) to find a great Jewish restaurant. The Bagel has been serving all your favorites since 1950, and people still crowd in, especially on weekend mornings, to gorge themselves on food that is somewhat less than healthy. The inside of the restaurant is lined with posters of Broadway musicals, and the sound system is constantly playing an assortment of obscure Sinatra recordings and other American standards from the 1940s and 50s. All the staple items are there. New York-style desserts round out the menu, with, of course, the ubiquitous Dr. Brown's colas.
