Overview

The Costume gallery is located on the top floor of the Palazzo Pitti. The exhibition illustrates the evolution of fashion from the 16th century to around 1930 by showing a series of characteristic clothes for each period. Accessories and underwear are displayed in the showcases on the walls. The ballroom was used for displays on subjects which concerned fashion. There is also an interesting display of the burial clothes of Grand Duke Cosimo I de'Medici, his wife Eleonora of Toledo and one of their sons, Garzia, a wonderfully preserved and restored garments from the 16th century.
