I suggest buying your tickets online before you go to avoid a line. Even though we did have prepaid tickets though we still had to wait. The experience was frustrating. Dont go first thing in the a.m. The crowds can spoil it.
This is great -- once you manage to get in. Definitely make reservations far in advance or you will be standing in a loooonnnngg line to make reservations when you get there. Also, make sure you get there well in advance of your entry time - you have to stand in one loooonnnng line to get your ticket and THEN move to another loooonnng line to get in (after you have gotten your ticket). Maybe they could consider consolidating these two lines? I mean, come on!
With all the comments about how great this museum is, I was most disapointed with the collection and the whole city of Florence. Very boring compared to Rome or Venice. Vatican Museum-much more impressive. Florentines are so full of themselves and are insecure about their standing behind Rome as a cultural center. Its OK that it can't compete with Rome. Not many place can.
The Uffizi Gallery covers an area of about 8.000 sq.m.. and contains one of the most important collections of art of all times, including classical sculpture and paintings on canvas and wood by 13th to 18th century Italian and foreign schools. The Gallery of the Uffizi was also the first museum ever to be opened to the public: in fact the Grand Duke granted permission to visit it on request from the year 1591. Its four centuries of history make the Uffizi Gallery the oldest museum in the world.
I loved the Uffizi. It has so much history and passion. The art work of Botticelli really comes to life. The atmosphere was perfect for a museum of this caliber! Nice and quite and people were very respectful! The negative was the three hour wait in line!!!
I loved the beautiful scenery. It was absoulutely gorgious. I thought that I was going to melt when I saw that sunset. Go there!!!!! :) :) :) :) :) :)
I've been to museums in Europe, but this one is one of the most extraordinary places I've ever seen (in the same category I advise you to go to Villa Borghese in Rome). It has a small minus - book yourself a ticket before going there, if not you will have to spend at least 2 hours to enter. You will love Boticelli's paintings and you will have a nice view on Ponte Vecchio.
The artwork is absolutely amazing! There is really something for everyone. Hint: We went with a large group on tour, and usually did not have to wait in line. Tickets for the group were purchased ahead of time, and we could walk right in. Definitely make reservations.
We caught our first glimpse of the Uffizi while walking on the other side of the river. Just that sight made us stop for a photo op. I'm not much of an art buff but there was such a variety in the gallery that anyone could find something to be amazed by. Make sure to look up at the ceilings as you are walking through the hallways and always look into the small rooms that are roped off of the main gallery rooms. Try not to wear or carry anything with much metal because you have to go through a metal detector to get in and it really slows down the line when people keep setting it off.
The people there treated me with comtempt simply because i was a tourist. I do NOT recommend going there
