Overview
Originally established in 1869 to house the Duke of Nassau's plant collection, the Palmengarten (Palm Garden) contains a stunning array of exotic plants. Visitors are free to wander at will through the gardens, although the guided tours are recommended for those who want to learn more about the plant world. Numerous activities take place throughout the year, including open-air classical concerts in the Summer, the Festival of Light in June, the Autumn Festival in September and the Orchid Festival in October. The hours of operation may vary according to the month, so kindly check out the website before you plan a visit to this mystical garden.Open Hours
Mo to Su from 09:00 AM to 06:00 PMI'm a Frankfurter living in USA for 34 years.I go home every other year. I love to go to Palmengarten all my life. I find it very peaceful to walk around and admire the beautyful flowers and plants, and listen to the orchestra that plays sometimes in the pavillion. So,everytime I go home my mother and I will hang out in Palmengarten all day
Great = The walk through the huge rock tunnel puts you through to another world. A wonderful lake with azaleas and black swans. Hard to remember you're in the middle of the city, which really goes away easily. Also, the most beautiful wisteria I've ever seen. Not so great = The shabbier areas are somewhat reminiscient of Eastern Europe institutionalism. Foggy, dirty, glass on Bauhaus style. But overall, well worth an afternoon.
Great hotel, close to the gardena, beautiful, do not fail to visit the Palmen Garten. Close to the American Embassy-Consulate. Take a stroll around the neighborhood, eat at one of the local restaurants, you will enjoy your stay at this out of the way, quiet hotel with real professional guest service.
In general, Frankfurt is too often just the gateway to other places and not actually thr destination. This wonderful city has much to offer. The Palmengarten is one such wonder. It's hard to remember that you're in the heart of the city. Walk through a dark tunnel of stone and you enter into another world. Paradise! A lake with black swans, azaleas, wisteria dripping off the buildings. Relax for a sunny afternoon and then trest yourself to a great meal in the city. Many thanks to my friend, Gina ("Moose"), for being an expert tour guide.
