Overview

This delightful collection of tactile displays encourages learning for children and adults alike. A ferocious dinosaur offers greetings in the front walkway; attractive and enticing exhibits branch out in all directions. There are nine permanent galleries with themes ranging from Texas history to computers to fossils. Two of these include dino dig and kidSpace, specifically designed for younger children. One of the most popular attractions is the Omni Theater, an IMAX theater that shows 70mm films on a huge screen. The noble planetarium presents programs on astrology. Features and show times vary.

Open Hours

Mo to Sa from 09:00 AM to 05:00 PM, Su from 12:00 PM to 05:00 PM

Go after May of 2009by Yahoo | 2008-02-14 18:16:54 |

We went to this museum once about a year and a half ago. The kids had a great time and we actually didn't even see most of the museum. We couldn't get them out of the toddler area - which by the way is great fun for kids. They have a miniature grocery store where the kids can use shopping carts, get food from the shelves and then scan their groceries. There is also a playhouse and several cars - so lots of pretend play - very kid-friendly! Prior to renovation, there was also a fun waterplay area. My advice would be to wait to go, though. They have currently moved a portion of the kidspace to the Cowgirls museum, which is the only part of the museum open right now. I was very disappointed when we went last week to find that they decided to shut the whole main building down for renovation rather than working on a portion at a time and trying to maintain the rest for visitors. The future plans look really good, so wait until 2009 and see it then - otherwise you may be disappointed. As a whole though, the museum is nice and kid friendly. I would have a membership right now if it weren't for the renovations going on. The only downside to me is the regular entry price. Otherwise, it's a great place to visit when it's fully open!!

not worth itby Yahoo | 2007-11-28 03:11:03 |

I was extremely disappointed with this museum. It is very small and the exhibits are limited. Take the extra 40 mins. to drive to Dallas. Anyone who has been to a science and history museum of moderate size will be let down by the one in Fort Worth.

One of the best in the countryby Yahoo | 2007-08-03 13:59:10 |

This museum has one of the finest collections in the country. Great children's programs and a staff that cares about education. I've been going to this museum regularly for over 30 years. You can always see something new. Also, the Omni Theater is a truly wondorous experience.

The food was cheap and goodby Yahoo | 2007-07-24 19:27:14 |

The staff tried to convince me to purchase a membership to the museum, then I found out they are closing in september for two years. The star wars exhibit was enjoyable to the two little boys I took with me, most of the hands on exhibits were malfunctioning and the staff did not know how or were not interested in fixing them. The cowgirl museum across the street was much more enjoyable. They have a hands on section over there as well that was much more entertaining and much better maintained. Overall I can say that it was not worth the $70.00 that it cost us to get in and the planetarium as well as the imax theatre and the stars wars exhibit are all additional charges beyond the basic museum fee. Be careful and pay attention to what you are paying and what you are getting out of it. Oh yeah the food at the court yard cafe was good and very inexpensive, it was also the one place in the museum where the employees were actually pleasant and willing to help.

Made for the Kids....by Yahoo | 2007-06-07 23:05:27 |

Fort Worth Museum of Science and History is a very kid friendly place. Lots of hands on things for all ages. Close to lot of other attractions. The Museum is a short drive to the Zoo or Bontanical Gardens, a walk to the Cowgirls Musuem. This is a great place for an afternoon with the kids.

Good place till Labor day 2007by Yahoo | 2007-03-30 17:07:36 |

This is a good museum at the moment, with some traveling exhibits and now till Labor day a good set of the archives on display. It currently feels like a participative small subunit of the Exploratorium, Ontario science center, or Chicago museum of technology, but will be better able to stand after the rebuild. This site will close for full rebuilding Labor day 2007 and reopen later. They are even moving the Omni and all the existing building will go away. Museum School and such will continue in portables. FUTURE plans are exciting, more space, less dead aisles, better crowd accommodation, and likely better access control and parking. This review is from a long time science professional in Fort Worth that visits about 2-3x per year.

WE WILL BE BACK!by Yahoo | 2006-12-17 15:19:45 |

WE HAD A REALLY GREAT TIME...BOTH MY KIDS DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE. WE WILL PLAN TO VISIT THE MUSEUM OFTEN. IT WAS NICE TO HAVE THE ROOMS SHOW WHAT IT WOULD BE LIKE TO HAVE A DISABILITY. THANKS FOR SUCH A GREAT ATTRACTION FOR FAMILIES!

Great place to take the kids!by Yahoo | 2006-07-11 16:16:49 |

This was my third trip back to this museum. I have young children so they enjoyed all the fun activities. I however did not like the admission price! Couldn't figure why they charge sooooo much!

Visit while you can!by Yahoo | 2006-07-09 19:06:55 |

Living nearby, we have family passes to the museum and visit almost every week. My younger son loves the KidSpace downstairs, my older son loves the upstairs areas more, and both like Dino Dig. And the Omni is a place the entire family loves! Unfortunately, in 2007 the museum will begin renovating and, as I understand it, all but the Omni will be destroyed and rebuilt over a 2-yr period. So, visit while you can!

awesome placeby Yahoo | 2005-11-23 22:37:17 |

the fort worth museum is an awesome place for kids and adults in my personal opinion i think the best thing they have is the omni theater you should check it out some time. The museum has exciting things for everyone, you can really learn lots about dinosaurs and all that kind of things. If you wanna have fun time with your family visit the fort worth museum. =]
