Quiet Retreat from City Center
Overview
With its wide lake and picturesque setting, Ohori Koen offers a perfect retreat from Fukuoka City center. The lake originally opened onto the sea and formed part of the moat of
Fukuoka Castle but was remodeled in the 1920s to form the city's largest open space. On weekends and holidays the park is crowded with people--many of whom rent paddle boats to explore the lake's boundaries. Weekdays are quieter. Other attractions within the park include the
Fukuoka Art Museum, a
Noh Theater, and a traditional Japanese garden.
