Everyone thinks Whistler's Mother is all that James McNeil Whistler did. When he died all his things went to his sister and when she died, everything went to Glasgow University. He was an artist and innovator. They show how he drew and painted and even have his implements and paints and no-one goes there! Today I have a very proper sketched nude that I bought for nearly nothing as a print and framed for a lot more. Please go to the Museum! Buses go there regularly. Everyone takes trains, subways and buses over there so don't worry. It's not like in the US. They also have a lot of great French, Italian and Spanish art. A lot of wild modern stuff as well.

there is a wealth of history and culture here complete with the country's oldest museum .well worth a visit. Admission to the art gallery and museum is free but you have to pay to see the architects rennie macintoshes house. It is good value for money. The mens union club is also great ,cheap beer

Glasgow is a fantastic city!! It has a fabulously friendly atmosphere (unlike some scottish capitals we could mention), great shopping, amazingly varied nightlife, and the west end is gorgeous. The uni also has two unions which makes student life slightly more interesting, but aside from the unions the uni is next to ashton lane which has a great assortment of cocktail bars (some of which have cheap student nights. Glasgow uni freshers week is also a total blast and both unions go all out to impress new students (mainly by plying them with free alcohol!) Wolfson are also brilliant halls for meeting ppl and there is always something going on, and it also has a library which is invaluable come exam time. Overall Glasgow uni and the city its self are friendly and homely, im from the south and felt at home almost instantly. English lit lectures are also v interesting and we have some great lecturers (some arent so good....but we wont go there!). Arts department is strict and it is a pain that students have to take english lang in first year if they want to do english lit to honours, but c'est la vie! However, if you do the work and remember to turn up to tutorials there shouldant be a problem!

Even I, after a year of going to school here, still bring a camera to class. It is an amazing place inside and out...and I am so going to take that tower tour when I get back in the Autumn
