Overview

This National Historical Landmark rests at the end of the West Rim Drive. Here, visitors to the Canyon will find a snack bar, gift shop, restrooms and water. Named for the French Canadian prospector, Louis Boucher, who lived alone in the area for more than 20 years, the site holds the impressive limestone building designed by the renowned Grand Canyon architect, Mary Colter, in 1914. Bikers and hikers find their way to Hermit's Rest, as well as those who take the shuttles in the summertime or drive their own vehicles during the rest of the year. Call to know the open hours

If you only have a short time like we did this is an excellent way to see the canyon in all its glory. You stop several times at different places to see some spectacular sights. Also can view the Colorado River and her rapids. If you are lucky you might see rafters. Take bioculars if you have them. The Hermit Rest store was great. There were lots of items to see and the scence from the front of the shop was fantistic. Great for adults and children. The Tour Guide was absolutely fantistic and gave a lot of trivia and factual information. We enjoyed it very much. We will and have recommend it to everyone. The price is reasonable and the time is well worth spendt.
