Overview
I liked the whole idea of the place. It was very incomparable and distinctive. It was a different experience and I like to try different things.
The food was bad and the overal experience of being in the facility was awful. The service was decent but at the end of the night my meal cost more than my hotel and it wasnt worth it.
My experience with this restaurant was nothing but positive. For this Valentines Day Dinner we ordered escargots(first time for those) Rack of lamb and chocolate fondue for dessert, it was delicious! The waitress took our order within the first 10 minutes and she was careful not disturb us too many times throughout the dinner. I feel this restaurant is intended for romantic dinners and that is what I recommend it for. Very private and intimate.
After hearing many good things about their cheesecake , three of us decided to go to La Cave (which has changed its name to SYN?!) Upon arriving we had to descend a narrow starway which was not brightly lit, it felt as if you were going into an actual cave.I do not suggest claustrophobic people dine here, I actually do not suggest anyone dine here. As soon as we got down we waited 10 minutes just for someone to come around and seat us. The place seemed totally deserted. We should have known then to turn around and leave. Finally a man showed up and said he would be right back... another 10 minutes went by and the man did not show, so finally a girl came around and said that she would be right back. We never saw her again. After waiting roughly 20 minutes the man came around and lead us to our table. But this wasnt just any table. First you had to navigate yourself around the estabishment which is hard considering it is mostly lightled with small candles. He led us right to the very back of the building and sat us in the smalles alcove where the tiny table took up most of the room. Thankfully he gave us our menus then so we'd have something to read for the 45 minutes that we waited jut to get some cheesecake!!!!! The waitress was decent and almost seemed embarrassed that we had to wait so long, however it seemed like something that happenes alot there. The time that we spent in our boiling hot alcove, we had only seen our waitress 3 times. In concluion you are better are to spend your money and time somewhere that actually cares about their customers. Don't even bother with this place.
This place was awful, it was slow..we waited an hour and not to mention when we got our food...the chicken was completely raw!!!!!! and drinks were watered down!!!!!! We got up and left immediatly! Ended up going to McDonalds :(
I loved the little alcoves, the ambiance, the food, the staff...I just love this place! The steamed musseld are to die for, the cheese fondue and of course, the cheese-cakes!
slow service...nothing special. Not what I expected compared to other top restaurants around the area (especially on Spring Garden road)
If you are in Halifax and want to start (or prolong) romantic evening go here! the atmosphere is great and the food is even better. But the best part is La Cave's selection of wines and cheese cake, they have the best of both from fruity to rich. I highly reccoment this establishment.
