Overview

Innovative and creative are words that describe Cox extremely well. The spacious dining rooms are simple but stylish, making this the perfect place to relax and enjoy great food. Apart from classic French and Italian dishes, the menu contains a selection of excellent international specialties in the mid-to-top price category. Yet the prices certainly haven't stopped people from coming here and booking is essential. Don't forget to try the delicious homemade sausage with parsley pesto and the exquisite lemon curd mousse.

    Decent food, horrible serviceby Yahoo | 2009-02-12 00:46:17 |

The COX restaurant is in a very nice and central IN area (St Georg) in Hamburg. The restaurant has a nice interior design and seems very busy with guests. The food is nothing spectacular but good. The service on the other hand is HORRIBLE. The wait stuff has an attitude and are very stuck up because the restaurant got a couple of awards and good reviews. Things got so bad that we ask for the service manager - she came and to our surprise it was the waitress who was servicing us for most of the night. She told us that they (the service staff) were very busy all night and therefore one cannot expect perfect service. Problem was only, that we didn't expect perfect service but just decent service. We didn't get any bred (like some other tables), we weren't ask if we would like any additional wine after our bottle was empty and it was almost impossible to get a waiters attention. I ask the service manageress who was our waiter, because 5 different people were running around and she answered nobody has an assigned waiter as all waiters serving all tables. Well, most of the time we weren't served and after our main course was gone and we tried without success to order dessert and coffee we just ask for the check. The arrival of the check was the fastest action the whole night. Well, at least it got us out very fast - just what we wanted. Afterwards friends told us that the service staff in this place is known for their rudeness and more and more locals stop going there.

This place has the ABSOLUTE WORST service and should be at the very bottom! The food was below average and cost a fortune!!!!!!!! Definetly not worth it!

    Excellent, but ...by Yahoo | 2004-07-23 12:58:33 |

My husband and I discovered Cox approx. a year ago and were ecstatic to find such an exceptional kitchen in Hamburg! The chef is creative and original and uses outstanding products in everything he does. Presentation is top notch! Refined, elegant BUT unpretentious! Bravo! HOWEVER, our last dining experience was unfortunately disappointing. The service was absolutely horrendous! The top of the top was when the waitress stuck her index finger into our bottle of wine (I'm guessing to clear out any cork pieces that remained?) before serving. Not to mention the fingers in our plates when serving, the "clanging" of the bottle against the lip of our wine glasses as she poured, the dribbling of wine down the glasses and on the tablecloth, or the reaching across the table between us. At a budget restaurant, I wouldn't have noticed, but the cuisine and, frankly, prices deem better service. They need to train their personnel better!!!!But, the most disappointing on this occasion was the food. The starters were up to the usual outstanding level! (I would recommend and/all on the menu). However, my husband's rabbit and my lamb were both average in quality and preparation (my lamb was a tough as shoe leather). We were so disappointed we didn't bother with dessert (though it has, in the past, been the best of the best). The GOOD NEWS is that a couple of weeks ago, friends told us that they met the chef of Cox's at a class they were taking on Wednesday nights. Needless to say, we were at Cox's on a Wednesday ... additional good news: as far as I know, the Wednesday night class is finished. So, when you call for reservations, just MAKE SURE THE CHEF IS ON THAT EVENING ... YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED.
