Traditional Garden Near Hiroshima CastleOverview
Shukkeien Garden is in a league of its own in this green city. Sculpted gardens, paths, ponds, bridges, islands, waterfalls, bamboo groves, rice fields, and cherry and plum blossom viewing in season, make for an extremely pleasant and photogenic place to go for a stroll. Tea ceremonies can often be seen performed by kimono-clad women in lawn-side tents. I would have loved to spend hours there but the rain kind of spoilt it. I reccomend going on a sunny day. It has so much to see it really should be given at least an hour.
Well worth a trip even though I sweated my way through in July. Great value with the garden being free along with admission to the Hiroshima Prefectural Museum.
Shukkeien Garden is in the heart of Hiroshima, located between the train station and Hiroshima Castle. Although mostly rebuilt after the 1945 atomic bombing, it has the look of a very old and established Japanese garden.
