I visited the zoo on my first trip to Viet Nam and it was a huge disappointment. Of course, this is coming from someone who lives in Southern California and have visited the San Diego zoo. There were pitifully few animals and the ones that were there were extremely malnourished. As an animal lover, it broke my heart. Southern Viet Nam has so much more to offer, don't waste your time visiting the zoo unless you have nothing else to do.
A big zoo in center of the HCM city , various animal , you all should come here to find interested of it
It is often called zoological garden or botanical garden, one of the oldest zoos in the world. The zoo came into being since 1864 by a French botanist, Mr. J. B Louis Pierre. It covered an area of twelve hectares on uncultivated land by the Rach Lang was finished in 1865 and further enlarged eight more hectares by the end of the year. The zoo includes a lot of rare fauna and flora from all over the world. In 1924, the zoo was extended 13 hectares to Thi Nghe, so the total area comes to 30 hectares. The zoo can be entered by 2 gates, one on Le Duan Street and the other on Xo Viet Nghe Tinh Street. It is divided into different sections: animal section, bonsai section, orchids section, chidren section etc. There are also culture remains of the country together with archeological items collected adn presented in the National museum. Inside, tourists can see the object of Óc Eo culture and those feudal dynastics. Opposite-the museum is an ancient temple honoring King Hung Vương, the national forefather. Like two lungs of the city, the zoo offers a wonderful recreation palace for townsfolk, especially on holidays and vacations when family picnics or youth camping are held.
