Overview

Mount Wellington is a spectacular backdrop to the city, with many wonderful views and lovely walks; some easy and others quite challenging. A fit and experienced walker can reach the summit from the city center and return in one day. An easier walk is from the bus terminus at Fern Tree, a round trip of five to six hours but be prepared for changing weather conditions. The summit is often clouded and in all seasons it can snow. The road to the top is closed to cars in bad weather.

Amazing Mountainby Yahoo | 2008-08-13 02:22:51 |

The journey up was worth the view. The pinnacle at the top provided amazing views. The observation area was great if you had children and were worried about them. It snowed on the mountain and was a little chilly but beautiful when the sun shone. All in all, a memorable time and would visit the mountain again when I go back.

Huge Funby Yahoo | 2007-10-13 09:43:51 |

We just happened to go up to the top of Mt Wellington when it was snowing - in fact it felt like a blizzard to us. The kids thought it was awesome fun. I stayed in the car and took photos from there! There were no views because of the snow but it was worth it all the same. Hint - take something to chew on as the change in height effected our ears quite strongly.

An incredible view of Hobart. An unreal view of the Derwent river and city. On a snowy day especially it is just magnificent to be "on top of the world"

Mt. Wellington is beyond belief in windiness, but it was an experience I will never forget. Got out of the car to put on my jacket, there was no way this was possible in that wind. I will never forget the feeling of trying to get to the oberservation building, the railings are to help pull yourself along. I thought my seventh grader was going to be blown away. The roads up the mountain are good. We really enjoyed ourselves and definitely would do it again if we ever get back to Australia, Tasmania, and Hobart and it is a clear day.
