Overview

If you want to enjoy an adventure on the sea, capture the thrill enjoyed for centuries by steamboat passengers. This contemporary multi-decked, paddle wheeled floating museum offers a great way to sightsee and tour Galveston Bay. The sights look entirely different from the boat than from the shoreline. The boat launches from Moody Gardens in Galveston. Call for information about special offers on the Saturday evening dinner/dance and charter parties. This adventure is enjoyed by visitors both young and old, so come on down and let the Captain take the helm for a change.

Dullby Yahoo | 2008-06-28 15:45:25 |

It is too long....its relaxing to sit under the covered areas on a bench but not much to see. And dont plan on getting thirsty...I got a strawberry smoothie for $7 and my mother got a pina colada for $17...yes thats right..not a typo. Didnt know it til i got my recipt after paying with a credit card. Total charges were 27.50 they included a tip of %15..its a snack bar!!!!!! Give me a break! Took me half the trip to calm down and just say, "we are on vacation"....to get over it. My four year old daughter was with us. She was bored instantly. There were other children on board...all just as bored. I group of boys around 10 years old were moving around the heavy decorative iron chairs and tables and making the biggest ruckus. Wouldnt do it again.

Lots of funby Yahoo | 2007-05-29 16:20:55 |

I get a year pass to Moody Gardens every year. I love the Colonel boat ride. You can dine or have a mixed drink or just enjoy the view. I especially love the ride during the Festival of Lights in Nov to Dec. The Christmas lights are lovely over the bay. Residents on the bay also decorate and the view is outstanding. I enjoy the paddlewheel as well. We have taken numerous rides and have loved everyone of them. The only downside is the picture they take and try to sell you while you are on the ride. I have to admit though, I did buy one once. I have never been pressured to buy it though. I paid $20. for a small picture packet that I still enjoy today.

BORING!by Yahoo | 2007-03-14 18:41:36 |

Aside from the floating, outdated, bordello motif, the bar was eager to serve all who could partake of overpriced, screw-top 3 oz. cups of wine. The ride was slow and boring, but less than an hour.. don't go out of your way to pay extra if the ride doesn't come in the package you purchased. Kids were bored as there was no entertainment other than the employees hawking your souvenir photo on the boat for $20 a pop. Too many other great attraction at Moody to waste an hour on this barnacle mobile. The disembark was especially soothing as everyone tried to leave the narrow gangplank at the same time. I would imagine during the peak summer season the ride unbearable!

Wouldn't pay for just boat rideby Yahoo | 2006-03-29 22:57:18 |

Included in day pass to Moody G. Short trip, didn't see much. You can bring your own food & drinks so a picnic would have been nice. Nice little playground if you need to wait or for after the ride.

Don't let the Yahoo Review Fool You!by Yahoo | 2005-08-17 00:22:48 |

You should really make sure that you call ahead to the Colonel to make sure that all of the information is correct. Firstly, the Dinner/Dance Cruise is only on selected Saturdays of the month and is $45. It sails from 7:00pm - 10:00pm. They offer a daily cruise around the Bayou, etc. That costs $8 for adults and $5-6 for kids.
