The Side Hotel & Pension is popular with backpackers and low-budget travelers, mostly due to its extremely friendly, helpful management and well-kept rooms. The hotel itself is clean and tidy with en suite bathrooms in each room, boasting very modern plumbing unlike many of its counterparts. The pension side is a little more basic, offering shared bathrooms. Each room is fairly different, so it's wise to inspect a few of them before you choose. Breakfast is served on the rooftop terrace and free tea is served in the reception area where there is also a tiny book exchange for guests.

Side Hotel is a place where one can feel ~ at home ~ very friendly, clean, safe, centrally located, sufficiently designed to offer generously what an Istanbul's visitor needs. I've also appreciated the turkish breakfast at the terrace.Some cheerful seagulls are the constant guardians of the terraces around.

We usually stay here every time we go to Istanbul. It has all of the basics (and a bit more), and is in a good location. The staff is very friendly, and because guests tend to stay here for more than a few days, we typically make a lot of friends in the common room. This is really a great place for those on a tight budget, yet who still enjoy a bit more than a dorm bed. Rooms are clean, breakfast is very basic, but included. No complaints.
