Overview

Nicknamed MOSH, this museum overlooks the St. Johns River and is near the downtown area. Great fun and an educational experience for the whole family, it comes with its own planetarium. Exhibits include marine life, native Florida wildlife, local history, and the Holozone, full of interactive games and simulator rides. In addition, classroom activities and planetarium programs allow for hands-on, interactive fun. Don't miss The Living Room, MOSH's animal exhibit.

Open Hours

Mo to Fr from 10:00 AM to 05:00 PM, Sa from 10:00 AM to 06:00 PM, Su from 01:00 PM to 06:00 PM

How sad for this cityby Yahoo | 2008-09-04 05:01:37 |

I went recently to Mosh, but I was very disappointed. I took my 3 year old nephew and even him was asking for more things to see and check. It wasn't a nice afternoon there. There's nothing good to see. Jaguars?? We have enough with jagmania stores. It's time to upgrade and give our children a really nice place to have fun and at the same time educated ourselfs. This is a really nice city and I'm sure we can have a great museum which we could be proud of.

In Serious Need of an Update!by Yahoo | 2008-04-16 18:43:41 |

Mosh has the potential to be a very cool place...even for "grown ups", but I was highly disappointed when I went about a two months ago. Most of the hands on stuff was broken and didn't have directions or an explanation of what it was demonstrating. I also went to the planetarium show and the "host" had no earthly idea what he was doing. He kept shining the laser pointer at the wrong stars...even a 5 year old could have done a better job. Maybe there is a lack of funding, but elementary schools go there on field trips all the time. If I were a third grader I would not be the least bit excited. Jacksonville needs to revamp this place!

Not very interestingby Yahoo | 2008-01-10 02:22:51 |

There wasn't much to see,it is old and worn out. I love museums and this one just wasn't worth our time. Perhaps for very small children this would be an ok place to take them but for adults it just doesn't stimulate the brain. I suggest the Jacksonville Zoo, it has a great animal atmosphere with a minor exception of the animal cages being a little too small.

enjoyed itby Yahoo | 2007-12-09 19:05:27 |

took the family to the mosh while visiting. enjoyed it a lot. planetarium was great. many intresting exhibits. will go back.

We were very disappointedby Yahoo | 2006-08-02 04:04:29 |

Since I am not from Jacksonville, I wanna go to a museum there to see history of the city and old pictures of it, I don't care about the Jacksonville Jaguars! Enough already! Jacksonville doesn't have to cram it down everyone's throates that it has a football team. We wanna see pictures of Jacksonville in 1833, 1933, etc. Its not a history museum, its an NFL museum.

Surprisedby Yahoo | 2005-05-19 19:15:26 |

I thought that since Jacksonville is such a large city that the local museum must be fantastic. I was wrong....the MOSH was a hugh letdown and I am stunned that they have the nerve to charge $7.00 to get in there. One exibit is a history of the Jaguars football team, who cares. I have been to many museums in much smaller communties then Jacksonville and this is a sad excuse for a museum and science center. I don't recommend it.

Lost the magic, but lasers still coolby Yahoo | 2004-08-19 19:16:16 |

I went on field trips here every years as a child and had fond memories, but when I returned as an adult, the museum seemed small and dated. The displays were not that impressive, as a good museum should be able to entertain both adults and children. However, the laser light shows offered some evenings are a fairly good and affordable way to spend an evening. Coupled with a walk on the riverwalk and dinner/drinks downtown, it makes a nice date.
