Named in honor of the Huguenot French settlers who colonized the area for a short while in the 16th century, Huguenot Memorial Park is another Jacksonville jewel. Aficionados of our fine-feathered friends will enjoy the avian observatory tower, and nature trails, perfect for bird watching. Adventurous types can rent canoes and use the boat launch to access the waterways, while sports-lovers can rent volleyball equipment, horseshoes and bicycles for an afternoon of fun. It's hard to find a beach this nice this close to the city. And, you can drive your car on the beach to find your perfect spot. We live in Jacksonville and this is a great day-trip destination. They also have camping. To see some pictures of Huguenot and other local parks in Jacksonville, watch the Jacksonville, FL Great Outdoors video at http://www.madcowmemories.com/resources.html
My family and I love Huguenot. We go there as much as possible. The sand is always perfect for playin or layin out and the water has never let us down! It's clean and blue. It's simply the best get-a-way ever!
The huge expanse of white sand and clean, salt water!!! There are no official designated areas, yet fishermen, boaters, swimmers, surfers, jet skiers, sunbathers, campers, girl watchers, guy watchers, wind surfers, kite surfers, kite flyers and sand-castle makers all have room to find that perfect spot for their particular activities. You can drive onto the beach and around the perimeter of the island as long as you drive slow and stay out of the dunes which are bird nesting areas. Whether you bring food and drink or patronize the vendors, it makes for a perfect day. Restrooms and a place to rinse off before you head home top off the day nicely.
It is the best surf spot ever the waves are perfict its the best surf spot i know and thats were all the good surfers go
This park is fantastic... it's not hyper-managed or overly landscaped (as in many state and national parks). It's in the true spirt of the parks as they used to be... meeting places, places to hang out and relax, enjoy life, meet other campers. I wouldn't recommend it for camper and mobile home campers... all the A/Cs and generators really destroy the laid-back beach vibes you get when you enter. In fact, I think they should restrict them to areas close to the entrance and leave the beaches and open space for tent folks who go to experience that rather are just looking for a place to park their monstrosities. For tent campers, this is one of the best places on the east coast (that isn't primitive camping).
This beach is by far the best.We love the wild life there. The oceans roar is so awesome. No need to bring a ipod or turn music to loud here cause youll miss the oceans roar.Bring your lunch and have a great day.
My family enjoyed the chance to play in the sand, even on a 60 degree December day! There were not many people at the beach and there is plenty of room to spread out. Campsites at the park appeared to be quite popular with RVs and tent campers alike. I suggest this stop to anyone heading south towards other Florida attractions and need a break from the car for awhile. For 50 cents a head, you can't go wrong with natural entertainment like this!
I am from the Jacksonville area, and I love this beach. The water is beautiful, and you can see all the big navy ships that come in. I would recommend this beach to all newcomers, and tourists. I currently live in Tallahasee, because I attend college. And even though it's only 2 hours away, I can't wait to move back home. This is Jacksonville's jewel!
I've known this beach all my life, as a child in the seventies it was cousins, friends and cook outs. As a teen in the eighties it was surfboards and sweethearts. The sound of crashing waves the feel of the warm sand on your feet the sunshine on your skin the smell of tanning oils and ocean fragrance the air, the cool water, evening walks on the shore. I've seen the sun come up there, I've seen the sunset. Whales, dolphins (and yes a young shark.) It's funny how time slips away things change, styles change but the beach still has the same blue ocean the same blue sky, the same warm sand...all painted and created by the same artist..GOD! Never out of style! Yeah, I love this beach! Thank You God for such a beautiful painting! kevin eugene
This is one of the few beaches you can still drive on. It has a family area and an area for just relaxing. It is well maintaines, beach is clean and rules are strickly enforced. It is patrolled by the sheriffs dept and they do an excellant job. At a cost of .50 per person entry fee it is truly a bargain. It has a store that carries all essentials and the prices are comparable to in town prices.
