Glodok (Chinatown) Day Trips & Walks

Official Chinatown of Jakarta Since 1740

Jalan Gajah Mada
Glodok Kota
Jakarta Barat,
11110
Indonesia

Overview

After the bloody massacre of 1740, the Chinese community was confined to ghettos in an area outside the city walls now known as Glodok. Today, shop houses, traditional markets, hawker stalls and temples dot the enclave, retaining a familiar Chinese atmosphere. Pockets of shopping opportunities lying in the area include Glodok Market (a cluster of buildings selling information-technology products, electronic goods, hardware and general department-store merchandise) and an interesting shopping bridge linking Jalan Hayam Wuruk and Jalan Gajah. Sightseers should pay a visit to the two old Buddhist temples Vihara Dharma Bhakti and Da Shi Miao--at Jalan Kemenangan.

Open Hours

A place for you to shop in relatively cheap priceby Yahoo | 2006-09-09 15:43:30 |

A very busy district, maybe it also never sleep too. There's activity day and night.. Maybe the largest chinatown in indonesia. It's kindda hard to find a specific shop there if you don't know the area well. There's a chance you might get lost also. Although it rarely happen coz you can always ask your way to the locals who are quite friendly there. Recommended for shopaholic.

The Real Chinese!by Yahoo | 2006-05-02 04:14:34 |

i like about its atmosphere. it feels like comin back home. everywhere sold a chinese food and its architectural feels like nostalgic feeling. even better, when the government revitalize the petak sembilan and park area, so there a no more 'pedagang kaki lima' which is makes glodok looks mess and harsh. it is clean now and you can walk freely without worry being robbed or something lika that. which one i hate is about it show. for real, example barongsai, should not be perform more than once a year! but in this place, the lantern, barongsai placed everywhere, so it makes unnatural, and not interesting anymore for me....more rare, more enthusiasm for me! if it performed everytime, surely it makes boring. please, enjoy the past side of jakarta in thi place...have fun
