Overview

One of the most arresting architectural sights in the city, this mosque is a shining legacy of the conquest of Islam in this country more than half a millennium ago. It also marks the beginning of the modernisation of the Johor State, being commissioned in 1900 by Sultan Abu Bakar, a much respected monarch widely referred to as the “Father of Modern Johor”. Costing a grand sum of MYR400,000, the building can accommodate 2,000 worshippers. Congregational prayers are held daily; Friday congregational prayers for men only. Non-Muslims may roam the grounds, except on Friday and during communal prayers. Admission: Free.

I love the mosque so very much! Because it is the place when I used to play around with my siblings. To me it is still the most beautiful mosque I've ever seen in my entire life! It is even beautiful at night where all the lighting highlighting the grandeur of the mosque. In the morning you could see the mosque built on the top of a hill towering gorgeusly overlooking Singapore. The feeling of upmost tranquility while you were there and romantic too. I love everything about that mosque. It's even made into a tourists spot but not too much. I love the architechture done by the British (Victorian style) and the choice of monochromatic color (black and white). I also love the garden behind the mosque. I didn't have the chance to go inside the mosque since it's already late at night. But I still remember the richness of space inside the mosque and an underground water compartment meant for taking ablution. So divine it looked, exceptionally beautiful, I wish I can have my wedding there. One day.
