Overview
Once a morgue and later an ice-house, this lively spot is one of the city's most popular bars and is said to have been the original Sloppy Joe's, entertaining author Ernest Hemingway. Jimmy Buffet sang here for a while in the beginning of his career and now live bands play nightly, who knows, perhaps you will hear the next Buffet. Stop by for a drink, or just to take a look at the "Hanging Tree," located inside the bar.Open Hours
Mo to Su from 11:00 AM to 04:00 AMIt is a great little bar but it is haunted. My husband and I visited there while in Key West, at the time I did not know the history of the bar. I just thought it looked cool it has a huge tree in the center of it. Once inside I ordered a drink and walked around exploring the bar. I began freezing like cold where I needed a winter coat and the hair on the back of my neck and my arms stood straight up. Something was there, I went into the bathroom I was the only one there and I heard strange noises and felt like someone was watching me. It scared me!! I went into the pool room with my husband and there were bottles stuck in the wall, the bottles are filled with holy water which I did not know at the time. I just could not shake this cold feeling it was so odd, I went outside to stand in the 90 degree weather. My husband thought I was crazy until we saw a special on haunted Key West where it talked about the bar and things that have happened there. It was an interesting experience!! It is a great place to go in and check if you are in Key West!!
Really liked this place. Ambience was awesome. Great atmosphere and people. Very reasonable priced drinks here also. Be sure to try and meet the captain if you can. He's a real ladies man.
Capt, Tonys bar is very comfortable, and the walls and ceilings joists that are covered with old huge bra's and panties should be classified as ancient archives.....
It's for those of us who like a taste of what old key west hangouts used to be like. Not for those who like fluff. The band is AWESOME AND THE PUNCH CANT BE BEAT!
This is always our first stop for a drink in KW, usually a Sat afternoon, while Gary is playing the guitar. Sit back, have a cold one, watch the people walk by, sing along, meet some new friends. This place defines Key West, not commercial, not crowded, perfect lazy afternoon bar.
it is the complete lack of class that makes Capt. Tony's such a great place to hang out, very cool environment. A must do for anyone visiting key west.
Good music. Cool. Not too too busy. The history of the place is a little errie yet cool. We were told details about Tony's while on the ghost tour. The ceiling is a little dirty with cobwebs and old nasty ass bras albiet some really huge bras. The sayings on the restroom walls are pretty cool. Check out Atlantic Shores Nudist place during the day.Keep real. Peace out
