Overview

The museum is situated on the site of the legendary musician's home, which he purchased in 1975. This house, featuring 19th-century architecture, was Marley's home until his death in 1981. It was converted into a museum six years later. The main museum displays Marley's personal treasures. The property also features a well-equipped 80-seat theatre, a gallery, and a gift shop selling T-shirts, posters and CDs. Other stores offer snacks, herbs and spices, and African arts and crafts. Tickle your palate with vegetarian meals from the Queen of Sheba Restaurant.

We have been to this museum several times over a ten year period, and used the museum as a meeting place this year. We are charmed by the fact that some of Bob Marley's friends still can be found there, and you can listen to true rastas reason about the concerns of the day. What shocked me (and would shock Bob Marley if he could see the place now) is the recent installation of surveillance cameras everywhere and the computerization of the shops...I spent half my time in lines while clerks vainly searched for the numerical codes for sale items and had to make phone calls for instructions on how to make almost every sale. There is also a life size hologram of Bob now and a couple of additions of artwork by devoted fans. Always worth the price of admission for lovers of reggae and rastafari. Interesting to see how technology is encroaching...

I will never forget...by Yahoo | 2007-11-24 20:46:32 |

The museum was amazing in that it collected all aspects of the family and the foundation that was built. From Bob's Rover on the front lawn, to the gardens in the back and to the recording studio (which only family members can enter), I felt so lucky to be there. In the last part of the tour I put my finger in the bullet hole left in the wall by the attempted assassination of Bob Marley. The experience was one I will never forget!

Bob Marley Museum: Place to go when in Kingstonby Yahoo | 2007-10-02 20:45:11 |

When me and my family went to Kingston the first thing we did was pick up my uncles and went to the museum. I loved the tour, and the stories and things they told about Bob and the house was quite amazing really. Some of the stuff she said , my dad didnt even know much less my self. I loved it when we went into the record room where you could see all of his records. Overall this tour was the best tour i have ever gotten. they were all happy and smiling when they gave us the tour and cheerfull. I loved that about the place. I would go back there if I got to go back to Jamaica.

You can't visit Kingston and not see Bob's placeby Yahoo | 2007-05-17 07:45:56 |

The Museum and tour was really informative, even from someone like me who isn't a die hard fan. The tour guide who took us around was funny and knowledgeable on Bob, his family and his story. I would recommend it, there isn't too much else to do in Kingston for tourists...

no place to visitby Yahoo | 2007-02-12 18:41:08 |

The personnel there were to say the least friendly. the displays inside the place were newspapers taped the the wall. The showed you bullet holes.you could not even go to the bathroom. you could smell it before you got there. waste of money and time. I could get the point about no pictures put there is a guy there with a machiet to get the point across

Visiting Bob Marley Museum was very interesting to me I have read many books about him,but I felt the love and respect from the tour guide Captain Crazy just the way how he told his life story was better then any book I have read. When you take your tour go in with an open mind and heart. The museum isn't spectacular,But the love the Jamaicans has for Bob Marley is Spectacular. Irie!!!

It was an overall disgrace to Bob Marley. It was uncreative and was not fun. This is only my opinion and i hope you realize that i am not dumb.
