Overview

This is an ideal getaway for a memorable picnic in paradise. The breath-taking waterfall is hidden in the rainforest, where the Daniels River plunges down a narrow gorge. Here, you can settle in for a lovely day of sunning, relaxing and bathing in picture-perfect deep rock pools. Choose a spot on the upper level of the river for the best view of the falls. Somerset Falls is past Hope Bay on the A4, about 10 miles west of Port Antonio on Jamaica's north coast.

Better fallsby Yahoo | 2006-11-21 18:39:34 |

I lived in Jamaica for a while and while Somerset falls is a decent place, there are better ones on the island. Reach falls at the end of the island is very secluded and unused. You just have to ask around to get there. It is not an overly tourist area like Somerset.

That experience was pretty great. The landscape was expetionnal and the fee not really expensive. It's really something to do if you're visiting jamaica and especially the north-east side of the island.

Off the beaten track, so takes a little adventurous spirit to find this peaceful retreat. For the very limited entrance fee, you get a short stroll through the wooded surrounds of the Falls, taking in some of the local wildlife (including two Giant Turtles!), before a canoe ride down to the falls. Once at the falls you can swim in the crystal clear waters, and generally relax in the peaceful, quiet surroundings. Generally, a nice way to pass time, but there is not a massive amount of extra value you could not get from any where else in the island. The guides are helpful and pleasant, and the whole experience is well worth a visit, but probably only if you have plenty of time on your hands, or are passing anyway.
