Overview

This university is located on the cliffs above the ocean near La Jolla. Often called by its abbreviation, UCSD, the school is particularly renowned for its science programs, which often work hand-in-hand with local high-tech firms, many of which began as UCSD project groups. Its theater, film, and political science programs are also among the best in the nation. The university sports an architecturally startling library, which has been likened to a giant beehive. The UCSD medical school staffs and operates a prestigious off-campus research hospital, which also provides indigent and uninsured care to thousands of local residents.

Prestine Beautyby Yahoo | 2005-04-03 22:29:32 |

La Jolla completely lives up to its name "jewel." The sites and scenes are placid and calming. From nearly any concievable angle, if one looks west you can see the sparkling blue waters. The beaches do not compare to any other in the California Coastline, whether it be by big sur or huntington beach, La jolla's shores are the best for any of your needs. As far as the people, they do not compare to the stressed out "city folk" in my town of Los Angeles. They are very fit attractive people with welcoming and warm smile! The reason I went to La Jolla was to see the campus of UCSD. I have visited most of the top UC's and this one takes any (UCB,UCSC,UCLA,UCSB,UCI) out of the water with its world reknown prestigious academics and gorgeous environment. To sum it up I was completely smitten over La Jolla and now will call this prestine beauty home this coming fall!!

Awesome Academicsby Yahoo | 2004-08-11 23:32:13 |

UCSD is more a school for research than anything else. If you are looking for fun and games, UCSD might disappoint you a little. Distinguished faculty, connections to prestigious research institutions like Scripps and Salk present excellent research opportunities.UCSD has a moderately good sports team, though it has really good sport facilites including extensive gyms and other physical activity arena like a running track and fields for games.San Diego nightlife and party scene sucks compared to many places but if you are looking for natural beauty or the sun and the sand then you are at the right place. If you are surfer, then look no further,Overall, UCSD is more an university with academic focus than anything else. People are friendly and the weather is great.
